Os primeiros anos oo The first years

Carmine Mirabelli was born in Botucatu, Sao Paulo, Brazil, on january 2, 1889. He was the first child from the marriage of protestant pastor Luigi Mirabelli with Christina Scaccioto Mirabelli. He had a sister, Tereza Mirabelli Eugenio (1891 - 1971).

He lost his mother very early and it is beleived that this helped him develop his parapsychological sensitivity. On february 22, 1914, soon after the death of his father and a complete financial breakdown, Mirabelli became ill and an extraordinary paranormality flourished. The medium used to say that his deceised father was his spiritual "Guiding Star". He was not a spiritist (a form of spiritualism) but alleged he could see the spirits of his parents, an uncle, his mother-in-law and a daughter.

Mirabelli studied at the Grupo Escolar Cardoso de Almeida, in Botucatu, at the Colégio São Luiz, in Itú (SP) and at the Cristovao Colombo School, in São Paulo (SP), but soon left school. Once the boy impressed very much his teachers and colleagues while speaking about the theme "Evolution and Involution" in pure latin, but without knowing the language.

"The Mysterious Man"

In 1916 Sao Paulo's newspapers disseminated the strange feats of the "Mysterious Man", also known as Carlos or Carlo Mirabelli. In 1914 he worked for the Villaça Footwear Company (Direita Street 6-A) when he was took by surprise by bizarre phenomena, similar to what we know today as "poltergeists" ("noisy ghosts", in german). Only when he was around, the shoes were frequently seen jumping from the shelves by themselves or moving as if animated. Mirabelli didn't understand why this happened, but many horrified clients attributed the phenomena to the Devil.

Mirabelli was considered by the people as possessed by the devil and he was beaten on the streets. His home was stoned by religious fanatics.

He was interned for 19 days in the Juqueri Insane Asylum. Drs. Francisco Franco da Rocha (1864 - 1933) and Felipe Aché verified that he had a "nervous energy" above normal. With the assistance of distinguished researchers of psychic phenomena, like the famous physician Dr. Alberto de Melo Seabra (1872 - 1934), Mirabelli became aware of the importance of his very rare psychic gifts and decided to submit himself to experimental spiritist sittings.
